My Rating: @ @ @ @ @Synopsis: Mahesh Bhatt's 'Arth' is said to be loosely based on his own marriage. It is a story about Pooja, who grew up as an orphan girl and always dreamt of owning a house. She becomes insecure when she finds out that she and her husband, Inder, have to leave the apartment they rent. The story develops a twist, when Inder gives her the keys of a new house and reveals that he is in love with another woman, Kavita, with whom he earned the money for the new apartment. When Inder leaves Pooja for Kavita, the story unfolds to depict the inner strength a woman posses to come to terms with life when deserted by the one man she loves and her trust is breached deeply shattered, after separation, after divorce. This was the first Art Film I saw when I was maybe 12 years old. I must thank my Mom for introducing me to the world of "Art films" from a very young age. I have seen this movie at different stages of my life, and every time I see it, I see life differently. I guess my Mom was trying to tell me early in life, in a rather subtle way that I should not grow up to be a hopeless romantic!!!. Well that did not work, but this movie along with others I found along the way have helped me relate to my own life in many ways and draw strength to move on, to survive, to thrive!!
